The "jinxed Instrutor Course"- An update
tstormdiver Since: May 2006 Posts: 3379 Last: 11/20/08 Cert: Open Water Instructor Dives: 230	Well, my instructor class just had our 4th session. The academics are going fairly smoothly. We have had one of our "mini exams", which I did decently on & we gave our first classroom lecture presentation last night. Did pretty good on that one also, except for a little nervousness (always harder to do it in front of your peers). Now,... you may ask why I titled this the "jinxed Instructor Course". Well,...... So far we have not been able to get into the pool to do any skills. The first time we went to do our water skills, the pool messed up on scheduling & there was a swim meet in progress when we arrived & it was not anywhere near the end. Larry was not happy, but let it slide. Last night we finished our presentations & headed over. Just before we arrived, the pool had lost power, so no lights, pumps or anything. Come to find out that the entire block lost power. Larry was quite upset this time, but nothing that could be done, it was beyond anyone's power there to correct there. Looks like the powers that be just don't want us to get into the water. Maybe I'll one day finish this course..... if we can ever get into the pool. The first time Larry evaluated our basic skills. I felt like I did as expected on everything but the hovering; I struggled with that a bit(specially doing it by manually inflating the BC, man,... that's a toughy- will have o practice more ). We were then assigned to do an in- water presentation (as if we were actually teaching a skill). I was assigned regulator retrieval & recovery. The next week we met in the classroom first to do a classroom lecture. I was assigned dive tables. Was I nervous about that one.... It actually went a lot smoother than I expected, but I still need to get used to public speaking (though vastly better than my Dive Con class, it's still not my strong suit,.... yet ). Then once we got to the pool, we did our in- water presentation. That seemed to go well, as I caught & corrected the "problems" presented to me by Larry. Next week we will be back to the books trying to finish up another chapter or 2. Maybe we'll be finished by the end of the year.... who knows. Sat. we will be at the quarry to do our last confined water & all our open water presentations. On the 13th & 15th will be all our final presentations, exam & other evaluations.
