"Diver Down" Real-World Scuba Accidents and How To Avoid Them, by Michael R. Ange is a book of actual diving accidents. Click here to see what is in the works!
I just got through reading a good book titled “DIVER DOWN Real-World Scuba Accidents and How To Avoid Them” by Michael Ange, published by McGraw Hill Publishing, ISBN# 0071445722. This book has real diving incidents (names and places changed) and told the story as it happened. Afterwards, a detailed explanation of the causes, and more importantly, the preventions are discussed. Several different incidents are discussed. These incidents apply to divers no matter what level: Basic OW to Trimix. I personally have not seen these exact incidents, but I have seen the “makings” of these. It’s an eye opener to read something that makes you remember back to an event and think, “Wow! That was just one step away from…”
Not only does Mr. Ange go into detail on these incidents, he also has side bars and sections on various types of diving or equipment that is relevant to the chapter’s subject. For example: Not sure what a rebreather does? There is a section describing the basic operation. There are several other sections as well: dry suits, trimix, rebreathers, dive masters, dive briefings, just to name a few!
Mr. Ange has a very diverse and in-depth background in the diving industry. Not only does he have his own shop: SEAduction® Dive Center, which is 25 minutes north of Fayetteville in Dunn, North Carolina, but Mr. Ange writes monthly articles for Rodale's SCUBA Diving Magazine; is the author of the SDI Divemaster Manual, the TDI Wreck Diving Manual, the Emergency Response Diving International Standards and Procedures. Mr. Ange now serves on the Technical Diving Safety Board for the SSI Tech XR Programs and is the managing director for the US division of a Sweden based manufacturing company called Waterproof Diving International. Mr. Ange travels around the world doing training for all types of divers. However, by diving with SEAduction, you will have the opportunity to benefit from his expertise while coming to understand why he has been "SEAduced by the Sea".
Mr. Ange also is in need of at least 3 more tech diving students who want to go from advanced nitrox all the way to entry level trimix in a compressed 6 day program. “This is the seventh year of our tech boot camp series and this year instead of doing for a magazine, Valeo Films is making a documentary about the courses. We need 3 more divers with at least 75 logged dives, AOW, Rescue and Basic Nitrox certifications and because we have none currently the Producer would really like to find at least two female divers for the project. We usually have about 25 to 35% female participants, but this year we have had none sign up. Of course we can still use some male divers as well. Some details can also be found on www.diversurvivor.com. The film group is well published in documentary circles – they are just finishing the last round of Naval Battles which is airing on the Military Channel. You can contact Mr. Ange at scubaguide@earthlink.net.
