About ESC

Evansville Scuba Club is a place for divers of Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois to meet and discuss diving in our region. We aim to be a good source for dive buddies, dive location information, and general scuba related information specific to our area. If you want to share your knowledge or just meet some cool people, please join our community!

How long has the club been around?

The club was initially formed as a Yahoo group in Feb. 2006. This website was created May 2, 2006, but the official club was formed in May 2007.

Do you have meetings?

Yes! We now have monthly Meet and Greets (MAGs). These are generally casual, fun affairs allowing everyone to put faces with names and to chit-chat about scuba diving (and everything else too). The meeting location varies each month to make it as fair as possible for club members. Some previous locations have been The Fox & Hound (Evansville), Pizza Chef (Newburgh), a members home, or at a quarry. If you would like to attend, please check our Meet And Greet event for information regarding our next meet. Everyone is welcome!

Now that the club has become official, we also have monthly club meetings. Every member can come to these as well, but these meetings are more formal and are used to discuss official club business. Information regarding these meetings can also be found in the events area.

Do you have to live in Indiana, Kentucky or Illinois to join?

No. We encourage all divers to join the site. The main reason we deal with these states is because the main purpose of this site is for divers to find dive buddies in our area. There are a lot of other scuba sites on the Internet with members from all over the world. Those are great sources for general information, but this site will eventually be a great source for diving in our area. We’d like to see this site become specialized regarding diving in these states. Please don’t let that stop you from joining! While we may not be able to meet up with you every weekend to dive, we might just be able to meet up with you on our next vacation! Likewise, we can show you some cold water quarry diving if you are ever in our area!

Do I need to be an experienced diver?

Not at all. Our members skills range from just certified to very experienced tech divers. There will always be someone willing to dive with you regardless of skill or certification level. The whole purpose for this site is for local divers to find dive buddies and to support our local dive community. Our new website should make finding someone to dive with even easier!

Do you dive all year?

Several members have drysuits and will dive all winter. The number of dives do increase when the weather starts getting warmer though (April/May).

What’s the difference between the web site and the Evansville Scuba Club?

Anyone can join the web site for free, chat in the forums, and participate in our events. Only paid members of the Evansville Scuba Club, however, have access to certain sections of the web site and discounts with our business partners. The club will occasionally have free events for paid members as well (i.e., Holiday Party). The ESC Officers are always working on new benefits for paid members and yearly membership is only $25 for an individual!

What’s the difference between Web Member and Club Member?

A Web Member is someone who has taken the time to join the website. This is free and open to all. This gives you access to most parts of the site as well as allows you to post messages, submit news, submit reviews, and most other things on the site. A Club Member is someone who has filled out the Membership application and paid their dues. This allows you to get special access to certain parts of the site, allows you to participate in club events, and allows the benefits with our business partners.

Why should I join?

We feel there are many reasons! First, to meet new friends who share the same passion as you! This, in our opinion, is one of the best reasons. Second, if you become a paid member, you get certain benefits with our current business partners. These benefits can range from free specialty courses, discounted air fills, discount quarry entry, and savings on gear. We also have many events which members get gifts, free food, whatever we can come up with! For more information, read our Want To Join page.
